Bringing DIY home

DIY jewelry, clothes and accessories have all been popular in recent years. But the same do it yourself mentality can be applied to your abode. Thread has even featured a ton of great home DIYs in past issues: check them out at outhreadmag.com.
DIYs are the perfect way to add something completely unique to your living space. You can customize art pieces, lighting and other home accessories to fit your style perfectly. Making it yourself is also a great way to limit your spending on home decorations — look for inexpensive materials that can be used to create an eye-catching piece that looks expensive.
There are tons of DIYs that I would love to try for my own house and hopefully I can find time to tackle some of these projects over spring break! Here are some DIYs I’m dying to try:
These letters would make such cute bookends. I love the idea of taking maps of my favorite places and using them as decorations, and I think this is an innovative way to use maps as home decor. People have been framing maps for ages, but these letters add a little something special to the idea of map decorations.
This orb-like lamp would be such a statement piece in any room. While it would take a bit of time and dedication to create it, the piece could really transform a drab space into something special.
Doing something as simple as framing pretty pieces of scrapbook paper is one of the easiest ways to add artwork to any room. Pick out bright, eye-catching prints and use them to create a statement wall. Pick out a few different options to see which ones look best in your space.
Who would have thought that cardboard tubes could be used to make such cool storage? This DIY is not only functional — you can use the tubes to as extra storage in any room — but also totally aesthetically pleasing. A really interesting pattern is easy to create by using several different tube sizes.
Do you have any DIYs that you have been wanting to tackle? Would you try any of the projects I featured? Let me know I’d love to see any finished DIYs you guys may have!
