Monochromatic Mania: Rooms with Single Color Schemes

Color is one of the most important aspects of both fashion and home decoration. Simple outfits can be instantly transformed with a pop of color and the colors you wear can display what mood you’re in. The use of color in home decor is a little more tricky though because you have to live with your color choices for an extended period of time. In fashion if you decide to wear a yellow outfit but later realize yellow doesn’t flatter your skin tone, you can immediately take it off. It’s much harder to change the entire color scheme of a room on a whim.
Monochromatic dressing has always interested me. The idea of using the same color, in varying tones, to create an outfit is such a cool concept, and a favorite of designers and fashion magazines. Monochromatic styles are making their way over to the realm of interior decorating too, and some of the most intriguing room designs I’ve seen lately have relied heavily on one dominant color. When it comes to monochromatic room designs, I’m particularly drawn to the unexpected use of bright colors.
Here are some of my favorite examples of single color based rooms — I would love to have any of these rooms in my own home.
I love the use of texture on the wall colored with the fuschia color palate. This is such a modern take on monochromatic style.
Kelly green is hardly used as a dominant decorating color, but in this living room the shade makes the space bright, airy and fresh.
This dark purple room takes the monochromatic style to a new level of opulence with it’s rich, regal feel. Though it’s similar in shade to the first photo, this room is a more classic, traditional style.
This room is like a dream. Turquoise is my absolute favorite color and it looks so cheerful and welcoming in this space. I love how the bright blue color pops up in several tones and patterns. If I could decorate my future place exactly like this I would be a very happy camper.
What color would you most like to decorate an entire room with? Or do you think it would be overkill to commit so fully to just one hue? Let me know what you think!
